Dawa programs at the Islamic Foundation play a crucial role in spreading Islamic knowledge, promoting faith, and fostering a sense of community. These programs are designed to educate the community about the teachings of Islam. In addition to offering weekly programs from our own Mufti Yusuf Badat, the Islamic Foundation also invites world-renowned scholars to conduct lectures, seminars, and discussions on various aspects of the religion, and famous qurra from around the world to recite the Book of Allah. These programs aim to strengthen the community and encourage participants to live righteous lives, strengthen their connection with Allah, and contribute positively to society.
IFT Youth offers programs that serve as a vital resource for young Muslims to connect with their faith while navigating the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood. Youth programs at the masjid often focus on building community, leadership, and personal development. They may include recreational activities such as sports, workshops, and social events, creating a safe and welcoming space where young people can form friendships and gain confidence. The goal is to provide young Muslims with a solid foundation in their faith, helping them to develop a strong sense of identity and purpose and empowering them to become active, engaged, and responsible members of both the Muslim community and society at large.
The Islamic Foundation is committed to supporting both our local community and the global ummah during times of crisis and need. We have partnered with trusted humanitarian organizations and international agencies to send aid to many countries, which include essential supplies such as food, clean water, medical aid, and clothing to disaster-stricken areas, such as Pakistan, Turkey and Bangladesh, and conflict zones in in Syria, and more recently in Gaza and Sudan.
The Hifz and Qiraat-ul Quran Competition is an annual event held at the Islamic Foundation to encourage youth to compete against each other in the categories of hifz and qiraat. The purpose of the competition is to build and strengthen the relationship youth have with the Quran. Every year, we invite world-renowned qurra to serve as judges for the competition. In an effort to put into practice the Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on respecting and caring for the elderly, the Islamic Foundation offers programs for seniors in our community. From arts workshops and summer picnics to fitness classes and health clinics, the masjid offers a space for the elderly to gather socially, develop friendships and receive emotional support. Through these efforts, the Islamic Foundation ensures that seniors are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, allowing them to live their later years with peace and purpose.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic Foundation offers nightly taraweeh prayers, led by huffaz who have graduated from our hifz school as well as our imams Qari Yunus Ingar and Mufti Yusuf Badat, and qiyam-ul-layl prayers in the last 10 nights. The masjid also serves iftar meals for the full month and suhur meals during the last 10 days for the community. If you would like to sponsor an iftar, please contact the main office at 416-321-0909. For brothers, wishing to perform itikaaf, spots are limited and are assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please register for itikaaf here. In addition to these services, we have a lecture session from Mufti Yusuf Badat every night and a weekly halaqa with a local scholar. Since 2005, the Islamic Foundation’s Feeding Faithfully meal program has served as a vital resource for those in need. Every week, dedicated volunteers prepare nutritious, comforting food to offer nourishment to individuals and families facing hunger or hardship. The program operates with an open-door policy, welcoming anyone who requires a hot meal, regardless of background or faith. Feeding Faithfully has become a cornerstone of the community’s efforts to combat food insecurity. It is not just about providing food but also offering a space where people can gather, connect, and feel a sense of belonging. The meal program is a manifestation of the masjid’s commitment to charity and social justice, values deeply embedded in our faith.
The Islamic Foundation is proudly part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program administered by the Canada Revenue Agency. The community free tax clinic is an effort by the Islamic Foundation and its dedicated volunteers to offer help to students, seniors, and lower-income families prepare and file income tax returns irrespective of religion and faith, as long as they meet the eligibility guidelines set by the government’s CVITP program. Please note in-person sessions are hosted on the last Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
